Campaigning and Influencing

As part of the national Age Concern Federation, we work to influence policy and practice on matters which affect older people, because we know that a positive change in government policy will have the biggest impact for the largest number of older people.  And we’re good at it.  In a recent survey of MPs, Age Concern was voted the most effective campaigning charity in the country.

Politicians need to pay a great deal of attention to the voices of older people.  Research shows that older people do not consistently vote for the same party – they vote for the party that offers them the best deal.

Recent and on-going national campaigns include:

  • campaigning for an increase in the basic state pension and an end to means- related benefits
  • a particular focus on women’s pensions and
  • our campaign to end age discrimination in all its forms
  • "Hungry to be Heard" - the scandal of malnourished older people in hospital
  • and much more!
