Role                                              Be a friend to a housebound and/or isolated older person as part of     

                                           our established and popular befriending service. Typically this might

                                           involve spending time with and getting to know an older person in

                                           their own home or visiting the local library or pub together.

                                           We need men and women - but especially men!

Time Commitment                1-2 hours each week at a time that's suitable for you and the person

                                           you're befriending.

Skills/Experience required        Just life experience and a friendly, caring manner.

                                          CATERING ASSISTANT

Location                              'Our Place' Cafe, Ashburner Street, Bolton.

Role                                     To help prepare and serve a wide range of hot and cold drinks,

                                           snacks and lunches in our busy and popular town centre cafe.

                                           To help with general duties in the cafe and kitchen areas.

Time Commitment                From 4-6 hours, anytime between 8.30am - 2.30pm, on one

                                           day a week, Monday - Saturday.

Skills/Experience required      Good customer service skills.

                                         HEALTHY/ ACTIVE LIFESTYLE VOLUNTEER

Location                                    Various community based venues across the borough of Bolton.   

Role                                          To encourage and support older people to stay fit and active, by taking

                                         part in a range of activities including: chair-based gentle exercise  

                                         sessions, leisure walks, health talks and much more. This is part of

                                         Age Concern's nationally recognised 'Ageing Well' programme.

Time Commitment              2 hours each week, morning or afternoon, on any day Monday - 

                                         Friday.

                                                    TUTOR and ACTIVITY LEADER 

Location                                    Learning and Resources Centre, Cross Street, Farnworth   

Role                                          Our modern, welcoming and purpose-built centre offers an attractive

                                         programme of short courses and activities, including computers (at various

                                         levels), digital photography, internet, family history, drawing and painting,

                                         crafts, music keyboard, dancing, keep fit and more!

                                         We need extra help to run some of these but we're also keen to add new 

                                         courses and activities. So, if you have a particular hobby or special 

                                         interest and are willing to share your knowledge, skills and passion

                                         for this, with others, we'd love to hear from you.

                                         We're particularly keen to provide the following activities: more keep fit  

                                         and exercise, singing/choral sessions, music and literature appreciation,

                                         floral art and anything else you'd like to suggest.

Time Commitment              1 - 2 hours each week, anytime between 9.30am - 3.30pm, Monday - 

                                         Friday.                 

Skills/Experience required    Proficiency in the activity/subject you offer and a friendly,

                                         supportive manner.

                                         DAY CENTRE ASSISTANT

Location                            At various centres across the borough of Bolton.

Role                                         To meet and greet frailer older people attending the centre; to help

                                        organise activities and to serve refreshments and lunches.

                                        Please note that you will NOT be required to help with any aspect

                                        of personal care.

Time Commitment             From 9.00am - 2.30pm, on various days dependant on the centre.

Role                                         The centre offers an attractive programme of health and well-being 

                                        activities. Currently these include a choice of exercise classes (at

                                        various levels), art, yoga, tai chi, line dancing and a range of different 

                                        crafts. We're keen to add to the above. So if you have a particular

                                        hobby or special interest and are willing to share your knowledge,

                                        skills and passion for this with others, we'd love to hear from you.

                                        LUNCH CLUB ASSISTANT

Location                            Bolton borough - various locations.

Role                                         We have a network of popular Lunch and Leisure Clubs throughout

                                        the borough of Bolton. You will meet and greet those attending

                                        the clubs, help to organise activities, prepare and serve light

                                        refreshments and lunches and help to maintain hygiene standards.

Time Commitment             4-5 hours on one day each week. Please note that various days

Role                                         To support small groups of frailer older people to take part in a range of

                                        craftwork e.g. paper crafts, card making, needlecraft etc at our friendly

                                        and comfortable day centre.

Time Commitment             2 hours each week (10.00am -12.00noon or 1.00pm-3.00pm) Tuesdays

                                        and/or Wednesdays.

Skills/Experience required    Proficiency in craftwork and a friendly, supportive manner.

                                         Friday.

                                          

Skills/Experience required     No previous experience required but you must enjoy meeting people.

                                          Your willingness to learn to use a till will be helpful.
